The Ball is Rolling

This morning we had our first home visit as part of our Adoption Home Study.  Before I go any further, I'll answer the first question always asked, What does this mean for when will you be able to get your baby?  We could have our child in our home in 6 - 12 months, and the average is closer to 12 months.  (More on the could have later, likely another day.)

Liane, our social worker, spent about three hours with us today.  Liane is a warm, friendly lady who has a heart for God and His orphans.  We first gave her a tour of our house and she let us know what would need to be changed or added by her final visit the end of January (child locks on cabinets, storing the weed-wacker higher in the garage, child-proof storage for cleaning & laundry supplies, etc).

After the home walk-through, we visited in the living room for a couple hours.  She asked us many follow up questions to our autobiographies and simply got acquainted with us as individuals and as a couple.  I thought I might feel like a bug under a microscope, but it was really all very comfortable.  Liane was easy to talk with and non-judgmental in all areas.

The best part came later when Ty and I were eating lunch together.  He said, "I was proud to be your husband today during the home study. I am proud of our life." Doesn't get much better than that.

Our next appointments are Monday, January 10 and Saturday, January 22.  Hopefully we will not need a fourth meeting, but it is possible.  We, of course, would appreciate your prayers!

  1. Congratulations on this big step! If you need additional help seeing what needs to be baby proofed I'll send over my kids who are exceptional at that kind of discovery. I'm so happy for you and keep you both in my prayers.
