Pinterest Inspired

Here's the deal.  I pin, pin, and pin.  But rarely do I follow through.  You too?  Motivate yourself to create, design, cook, organize, build, or whatever by sharing your Pinterest inspired project on your blog.

Pinterest Inspiration:

 from projectnursery.com.

My project:

  • Painted a wooden frame and sanded it for the distressed look.
  • Decoupaged scrapbook paper onto wooden letters and painted the sides and back of letters.
  • Connected letters to frame using craft pins & ribbon.
  • Added vintage embellishments to frame.

(Sorry for the grainy iPod picture.  And please know, Lainey's room is not painted pea soup green like it looks in the picture.  Lighting is an issue we are currently problem solving.)

Comment with a link below that shows off your finished Pinterest inspired project, and I'll put you in a drawing for something cool.  Like a picture frame, can of metallic spray paint or coffee card. Drawing held Sunday, October 30.

My Love Hate Relationship with El Nina.

Right now, it's mostly Hate.  Silly me for looking forward to El Nina this winter and the snow days she would bring me.  Here are pictures of our second and third basements floods in the four months we've owned our home.

The only carpeted room in our house.
(Yes, those are his dress shoes.  I think he was just too angry to change them.)

Every Season, Turn, Turn, Turn...

I began regretting this whole blog thing because nothing in life was interesting enough to tell others about. So then, life became interesting.

We moved, and we love, love, love our new house. But...(did you know that word was coming?)...home ownership is not for wimps! Since we moved in a month ago, the alarm system crashed because something went wrong with the septic system, our doorknob broke, the hot tub began leaking, the smoke detector's gone off three times, and our basement flooded. No joke. Apparently our drainage system lacks efficiency, and the backyard is now completely dug up with large pipes every which way.

In everything, a lesson is learned. This lesson was simply a reminder that we have AMAZING friends. Friends who'll drop anything to help us out. Friends who'll dig while it's raining. Ones who'll dig at 12:30 A.M. Friends who'll give up their entire Saturday night and Sunday morning to help. And ones who'll share a drink (or two, or...) when the digging is over.

I'd post a picture of the mess, but I haven't learned to do that yet!

Until next time, thank God for friends!

Home is Where...

...the heart is. But it's a lot of other things, too.

I've been busy packing up for our move this weekend. We recently took a big risk, one we hope and pray will pay off for us in the long run. We bought a house. Nope, didn't sell our condo. We plan to rent it out and hold onto it as a long-term investment.

Though we're nervous, we are also eager and excited to start a new phase of life in this house. I look forward to not worrying about the music being too loud when I clean or running into neighbors when I take Boone outside in my PJ's. For that matter, I look forward to NOT taking Boone out...the yard is fenced. I am excited to host bar-b-q's, host my family for holidays (yes - family - you know who you are!), re-decorate, cook on new appliances and the use the almost-new front loading washer and dryer. I'm excited to plan the landscaping. But mostly, I look forward to raising our family in this house.

I've digressed. Today I just want to record a few fond memories in this condo, in no particular order. It's been our home - where the heart is - for nearly four years and we have much to hang onto from our time here. I want to remember...

...Mom's many visits.
...bringing Boone home.
...learning to garden and discovering that I love it.
...Mom and Dad's visit together in August 2007.
...Ty's 30th birthday/Admin grad party and many other parties.
...Ty's cousin living with us.
...the first Thanksgiving meal I was responsible for hosting.
...the phone call telling us about the passing of Ty's father.
...walks, chats, and pool dates with my new friend who lives just down the road.
...popcorn, candy, and snuggling with Ty to watch movies.
...the hot tub.
...painting - once, twice, three times or more - decorating, putting in flooring.
...Tuesday and Thursday nights watching seasons of shows while Ty was in school.
